If Klue's renewal is coming into view, or Calven has landed on the same shortlist, you'll want to know whether Calven can take over the competitive research, battle cards and win-loss you bought Klue for. It can: its agents do that work, from the dossiers to the interviews. But Calven is an [AI product marketing platform](/resources/ai-for-pmm/ai-product-marketing-platform), so the knowledge base behind each battle card also holds your positioning, your messaging and what your customers say.

Both products run AI agents now, so agents aren't where they split. They split on how much of the product marketing job each one covers. This article compares them on 40 capabilities across six areas of that job, then covers what each costs and what switching takes.

## How does Calven compare to Klue?

Klue is a competitive intelligence and win-loss platform, built to get intel to sales reps inside the deal. Calven is an AI product marketing platform covering positioning and messaging, audience (ICP and personas) and research, which takes in competitive intelligence with win-loss, voice of customer and market research, all on one knowledge base.

| | Calven | Klue |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | AI product marketing platform | "The AI platform for Competitive Intelligence & Win-Loss," in Klue's words |
| Who runs it | The PMM team; agents do the upkeep and the owner approves by default | A CI team, sales enablement or PMM |
| Users | Unlimited on Professional and Enterprise | Priced per user; Klue publishes no plans or seat counts, so ask its sales team. Buyers report a 5 to 10 user minimum |
| Competitors covered | 10 on Professional; 20 or more on Enterprise, scaling with Expansion Packs | Unlimited |
| Product marketing capabilities ([compared below](#which-one-covers-more-oftheproduct-marketing-job)) | 36 of 40 (90%) | 16 of 40 (40%) |
| Price per year | Professional: **$9,600**<br />Enterprise: from **$19,200** | Quoted; about **$30,000** at the median for competitive intelligence, with win-loss sold separately |

Reviewers rate Klue well: [4.7 on G2](https://www.g2.com/products/klue/reviews) across more than 440 reviews. On G2 and Gartner Peer Insights they praise the battle cards, ease of use for reps and win-loss in the same platform, and complain about clunky card authoring and needing a dedicated owner. Klue also says it's a Leader in Gartner's first Magic Quadrant for the category; Gartner's public summary lists it as evaluated without showing placement. In June 2026 Salesforce disabled the Klue app after attackers used a legacy Klue integration credential to take OAuth tokens ([The Hacker News](https://thehackernews.com/2026/06/salesforce-disables-klue-app.html)); Klue said on 27 July that the integration was back.

## Which one covers more of the product marketing job?

Calven, by a wide margin: 36 of the 40 capabilities below, against 16 for Klue. Klue leads on human-led and recruited win-loss interviews, battle cards inside sales tools and card usage analytics. Calven covers positioning and messaging, ICP and personas, and customer and market research, which Klue's materials don't describe.

| Area | Calven | Klue |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Positioning and messaging | 9 of 9 (100%) | 0.5 of 9 (6%) |
| ICP and personas | 6 of 6 (100%) | 0 of 6 (0%) |
| Competitive intelligence | 10 of 10 (100%) | 6 of 10 (60%) |
| Sales enablement | 3 of 5 (60%) | 4.5 of 5 (90%) |
| Win-loss analysis | 4 of 6 (67%) | 4.5 of 6 (75%) |
| Customer and market research | 4 of 4 (100%) | 0.5 of 4 (13%) |
| All 40 capabilities | 36 of 40 (90%) | 16 of 40 (40%) |

A partial capability counts as half.

### Which one handles positioning and messaging?

Positioning decides which market you compete in, who you're for and why you win; messaging turns that into the words sales, marketing and the website use. It's the core of the product marketing job, and it only works when those words stay consistent wherever buyers meet them: on your homepage and G2 profile, in what AI assistants say about you and in what reps say on calls.

| Capability | Calven | Klue |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Build a positioning framework: category, differentiation, target buyer and positioning statement | Yes: Drafted from your research | No: Knowledge Hub stores positioning documents you upload; it does not write them |
| Test which differentiators are defensible | Yes: A differentiator counts when no tracked rival claims it, customer evidence backs it and it shows up in won deals | No |
| Detect competitors’ positioning moves | Yes: Website changes and news, flagged as positioning moves | Partly: Website changes reach its feed and cards, not classified as positioning moves |
| See how AI assistants describe your company and category, and which vendors they recommend | Yes: ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot, checked monthly | No: Klue feeds its content into AI assistants; it does not audit what they say about you |
| Check that your public profiles match your positioning and messaging | Yes: Your website, LinkedIn, G2, cloud marketplaces and many others | No |
| Build the messaging framework: value props, a messaging matrix by persona and buying stage, vertical and campaign variants | Yes: Built and kept current | No: Talk tracks per competitor only |
| Check that each messaging pillar is backed by customer evidence and uses your customers’ language | Yes: Scored pillar by pillar against your customer voice | No |
| Write on-message copy in an AI assistant | Yes: Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini read your messaging, personas and evidence over MCP | No: Its MCP server serves compete content, not your messaging |
| Measure how much of your messaging your team uses on customer calls | Yes: Your side of each call, counted against every messaging pillar | No: Its Gong integration flags competitor mentions, not your own messaging |

### Do they define your ICP and personas?

The ICP tells sales which accounts to chase, and personas tell marketing what each buyer cares about. Product marketing owns both, and they're only as good as their fit with what actually closes: which segments win, and whether deals with more people involved win more often.

| Capability | Calven | Klue |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Define the ICP: firmographic, technographic and use-case profiles with a fit scorecard | Yes | No |
| Track how much of your pipeline and your won deals fit the ICP | Yes: ICP-fit pipeline and ICP share of wins, from your CRM | No |
| Find your best- and worst-fit segments | Yes: Ranked by win rate, with deal size and sales cycle | No |
| Research buyer and user personas, with pains, gains and messaging hooks | Yes | No |
| Get feedback on any copy from your personas | Yes: Each persona reviews the draft, in the app or from an AI assistant over MCP | No |
| Measure how multi-threading affects your win rate | Yes: Win rate on deals with two or more contacts engaged, and the single-threaded pipeline at risk | No |

### How do they compare on competitive intelligence?

Competitive intelligence keeps the team current on what rivals launch, change and claim, so positioning and battle cards answer the market as it is now. For product marketing, the work is catching moves early, separating real moves from noise, and knowing where you win and lose against each rival.

| Capability | Calven | Klue |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Find and tier your competitors | Yes: Starts from your company name and URL | No: You add competitors |
| Detect new entrants you have not added | Yes: Scans the market for emerging competitors | No |
| Monitor competitor websites, including pricing pages | Yes: Eight page types, from pricing to hiring and trust pages, including bot-protected sites | Yes: Any web page you add |
| Track competitor news | Yes | Yes: News roundup cards |
| Mine competitor reviews on G2 and similar sites | Yes | Yes: G2 reviews feed Klue’s insights |
| Track competitor momentum: how often each one moves, and how | Yes: Moves per competitor by month and type | No |
| Collect field intel from employees in Slack | Yes: Employees share notes and files with Calven’s agents in Slack | Yes: Slack, Teams, email forwarding and a browser extension |
| Keep a profile of each competitor that updates as they change | Yes: A 20-section dossier, every claim sourced, updated from website changes | Yes: A board per competitor; Auto Insights adds cards daily or weekly |
| Write battle cards with objection handling, discovery questions and a feature comparison | Yes: Composed from the dossier, every claim sourced | Yes: Auto Insights drafts objection handling, talk tracks and pricing cards |
| Measure your win rate against each competitor | Yes: From decided CRM deals that named a competitor | No: Reports cover content adoption and revenue impact |

### How do they get intel to sales?

Intel only pays off when reps use it in the deal. Product marketing's job here is getting accurate answers to sellers where they already work, and making sure nothing wrong reaches them first.

| Capability | Calven | Klue |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Review AI-written changes before reps see them | Yes: Approval by default; it can be turned off | Partly: Edits made over MCP wait for approval; Auto Insights describes no review step |
| Answer rep questions in Slack | Yes: The Slack app | Yes: Ask Klue, in Slack and Salesforce |
| Answer rep questions in AI assistants over MCP | Yes: Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini | Yes: Claude, ChatGPT and Glean |
| Show battle cards inside the CRM, Teams and sales content tools | No: Slack and AI assistants | Yes: Salesforce, HubSpot, Dynamics, Teams, Highspot, Seismic and mobile apps |
| Measure battle card usage by rep | No | Yes: Adoption reports |

### How do they compare on win-loss analysis?

Win-loss analysis asks buyers why they chose you or someone else. It's the most direct evidence product marketing gets on positioning, pricing and the sales process, and it works when it reaches enough buyers to show patterns, rather than the few deals someone remembers.

| Capability | Calven | Klue |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Survey buyers automatically when a deal closes in the CRM | Yes: Sent on closed deals, automatically or after your review | No |
| Interview buyers with an AI voice interviewer | Yes: Unlimited interviews on Professional and Enterprise | Yes: AI Interviewer, two to five minutes per conversation |
| Run interviews by human researchers | No | Yes: Expert Interviews |
| Interview buyers from deals you were not in | No | Yes: Blindspot Interviews, with respondents Klue recruits |
| Summarize each won or lost deal | Yes: From the buyer’s interview or survey | Yes: Win & Loss Story Agent, from CRM data and calls |
| Find why you win and lose across deals: pricing, product, sales process and competitors | Yes: A deal drivers board, refreshed weekly | Partly: Interviews can be searched together in Ask Klue |

### Do they research your customers and your market?

Customer research tells product marketing what buyers need, in their own words; market research tells it where the market is moving and where the next opportunity sits. Both feed the positioning, messaging and ICP the team owns.

| Capability | Calven | Klue |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Pull pains, jobs to be done, objections and buying triggers from call transcripts and interviews | Yes: Verbatim quotes, attributed to their source | Partly: Call recordings feed per-deal win-loss stories |
| Track customer themes and sentiment over time | Yes: Clustered weekly | No |
| Analyze market trends: technology, regulatory and category shifts, and the analyst reports you upload | Yes: Quarterly on Professional, monthly on Enterprise | No |
| Identify market opportunities: new segments, use cases and messaging angles | Yes | No |

## What do Klue and Calven cost?

Klue publishes no price, so its column shows what buyers report paying, from [Vendr's Klue page](https://www.vendr.com/marketplace/klue) and [Vendr's Klue buyer guide](https://www.vendr.com/buyer-guides/klue) (February 2026), with the separate modules from ZoomInfo's review of Klue; the win-loss figure is based on available information. Calven's column is its published list price, September 2026.

Whether Klue is worth it depends less on the licence than on the hours of whoever keeps it running. When you [evaluate a competitive intelligence tool](/resources/competitive-intelligence/how-to-evaluate-competitive-intelligence-tools), price the tool plus its owner. For David Kolínek, before he co-founded Calven, the owner's time decided it:

> At Ataccama we paid $34,000 a year for Klue's enterprise licence. We cancelled because the team was still spending multiple person-days a month keeping everything up to date.
>
> — David Kolínek, Ex-VP of Product Marketing at Ataccama

Klue's AI now drafts cards in the background, so measure that owner time on your own account. Quote drivers are in [Klue pricing in 2026](/resources/comparisons/klue-pricing), and the plan details in [Calven pricing](/pricing).

The renewal date sets the switching clock. Under Klue's standard terms (version of 17 October 2025), the contract renews for twelve months unless you give notice at least 90 days before the term ends, and a fee change has to be announced at least 30 days before that deadline. Start the [14-day Calven trial](https://app.calven.ai/sign-up) before the notice date and run it on one competitor and one lost deal: time how fast the dossier updates after the competitor's change, check that every claim traces to a source, and see whether reps use the card. The steps for moving your Klue content are in [how to migrate off Klue or Crayon](/resources/competitive-intelligence/how-to-migrate-off-klue-or-crayon), with a [CI tool migration checklist](/resources/templates/how-to-migrate-off-klue-or-crayon-template). To copy your cards and battlecards out first, Calven's open-source [Klue export tool](https://github.com/calven-ai/calven-migrate-from-klue) copies them to Markdown and JSON on your own machine in one command.
