If a Klue renewal has just landed on a PMM team of two or three, the roughly $30,000 is only half the problem. The tool still needs one of you to keep it current. The newer choice is a platform whose agents do that curating, and keep the battle card and the positioning behind it in one place, the way Calven does. Monitors cost less still, if you're happy to write every card yourself.

This article compares ten of them on price and on what each still leaves you to do, then covers how to switch before your notice date.

## Why do small PMM teams leave Klue?

Price, and the staffing it assumes. Klue charges a five-figure licence and expects someone to curate it every day, and a team of two or three PMMs struggles to carry both.

The licence comes to about $30,000 a year at the median across 106 purchases on [Vendr](https://www.vendr.com/marketplace/klue), quoted per user with a reported 5 to 10 user minimum and onboarding priced separately, per [Vendr's Klue buyer guide](https://www.vendr.com/buyer-guides/klue). [Klue pricing](/resources/comparisons/klue-pricing#how-much-does-klue-cost) covers what moves the quote.

How much curating, nobody agrees. Klue's site says users can "triage new intel in minutes each day". [Prospeo's guide to Klue alternatives](https://prospeo.io/s/klue-alternatives) puts the analyst labour at 10 to 20 hours a week. Both can be true: sorting the alerts is quick, but folding what matters into the battle cards and the positioning behind them, and getting each change approved, is where the hours go.

> At Ataccama we paid $34,000 a year for Klue's enterprise licence. We cancelled because the team was still spending multiple person-days a month keeping everything up to date.

Klue built its base among sales-led companies that live in Salesforce, and that is the link that broke in June 2026. Salesforce disabled the Klue app after attackers used a legacy Klue integration credential to take OAuth tokens and reach data in customers' connected systems ([The Hacker News](https://thehackernews.com/2026/06/salesforce-disables-klue-app.html)). The Salesforce and Gong integrations stayed off for about six weeks, until 27 July. They are back, but the incident now comes up in every security review at renewal, and a fix doesn't undo it. Before that renewal, check two lines in Klue's standard terms: contracts renew for 12 months at then-current pricing, and leaving takes 90 days' notice.

## What are the best Klue alternatives?

According to [the best competitive intelligence tools review](/resources/comparisons/best-competitive-intelligence-tools) from September 2026, the strongest Klue alternative for a small PMM team is **Calven at 88%** on eight criteria, against **Klue at 63%**, with Crayon the closest like-for-like swap. The table groups the options by the job they do, with Klue on top for reference.

| Tool | Best for | Price | What it leaves to you |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Enterprise CI and market intelligence** | | | |
| Klue | Sales-led teams on Salesforce with a dedicated curator | About $30,000 a year | Daily triage and card upkeep |
| Crayon | Cross-functional CI, widest monitoring | About $30,000 a year | Tuning the feed; win-loss elsewhere |
| Kompyte | Lighter CI, onboarding included | About $10,000 to $25,000 a year, estimated | Turning each change into a card |
| Contify | Enterprise market intelligence hub | Not published | Defining the monitoring scope and taxonomy |
| AlphaSense | Market and financial research | About $18,375 a year | Battle cards and win-loss |
| **Product marketing platform** | | | |
| Calven | CI with win-loss, positioning and messaging on one platform | $9,600 a year for the whole team; Enterprise from $19,200 ([pricing](/pricing)) | Reviewing the agents' drafts, until you turn approvals off |
| **Budget tools, monitors and DIY** | | | |
| Playwise HQ | Rep-sourced battle cards on a tight budget | Free; Pro $250 a month | Monitoring: intel comes from reps |
| ChatGPT or Claude | Teams with no CI budget and time to prompt | About $200 a seat a month | The prompts, the review and the buyer interviews |
| KeepTabz | A competitor digest in Slack or email | Under $100 a month | The battle card |
| Competely | One-off competitor analyses | $39 to $99 a month | Battle cards and win-loss |
| Visualping | Page-change alerts | Free, or $14 to $350 a month | Everything after the alert |

Klue, Crayon and AlphaSense prices are Vendr medians ([Klue](https://www.vendr.com/marketplace/klue), [Crayon](https://www.vendr.com/marketplace/crayon), [AlphaSense](https://www.vendr.com/marketplace/alphasense)), read 1 September 2026. The Kompyte range is a third-party estimate; Contify publishes no price. The rest come from the vendors' pricing pages in September 2026.

### Calven: AI product marketing platform for a third of the price

The best AI tool for competitive research keeps a sourced file on every competitor current instead of answering once. Calven does that inside an [AI product marketing platform](/resources/ai-for-pmm/ai-product-marketing-platform) covering positioning and messaging, audience (ICP and personas), and research: competitive intelligence with win-loss, market research and voice of customer, all on one knowledge base.

Its [Competitive Intelligence Agent](/platform/research#competitive-intelligence) maps your competitors from a company name and URL, writes a sourced dossier on each and watches their websites and docs, folding each change back into the dossier and the battle card for the PMM to review. The [Win/Loss Agent](/platform/research#win-loss) sends a survey when a deal closes in the CRM, offers an AI voice interview instead of the form, and writes the patterns across deals. The [Positioning Agent](/platform/messaging#positioning) and [Messaging Agent](/platform/messaging#messaging) work from the same evidence, so the card a rep opens and the positioning behind it come from one source.

Drafts wait for approval by default, and approvals can be turned off once the team trusts the output. Anyone on the team can query the knowledge base from Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini over [MCP](/mcp), and reps can ask it in Slack. Professional is $9,600 a year with unlimited seats and win-loss interviews, covering 10 competitors; Enterprise starts at $19,200 a year with 20 or more competitors and daily runs on the closest rivals.

### Crayon: same price, wider net

Crayon is the closest like-for-like swap. It prices mainly on how many competitors you track rather than on users, and it has the widest monitoring of the legacy tools, provided someone tunes the feed. A small team trades one curator problem for another, and there is no managed win-loss service. [Klue and Crayon side by side](/resources/comparisons/klue-vs-crayon) has the head-to-head.

### Contify and AlphaSense: market intelligence first

Both are built for research teams more than for a PMM arming sales. Contify offers unlimited users, aims at mid-to-large enterprises in its own words and leaves the monitoring taxonomy to the buyer. AlphaSense is a per-seat research platform with battle cards only as a research template ([Klue versus AlphaSense](/resources/comparisons/klue-vs-alphasense)). Skip both if the job is a card a rep opens mid-deal.

### Playwise HQ: a free tier built on what reps hear

For a PMM working alone, Playwise HQ's free plan, with 5 users and 5 competitor battle cards, is a fair pick. The intel comes from reps submitting what they hear in deals; the site claims no automatic monitoring. Playwise says itself that it is "not a full replacement if you need Klue's deeper enterprise CI workflows".

### ChatGPT or Claude: build it yourself

Asked where CI tools fall short, 27% of the 101 PMMs in [Wynter's May 2026 survey of competitive intelligence in B2B SaaS](https://wynter.com/research/the-state-of-competitive-intelligence-in-b2b-saas) named "Replaced by general-purpose AI". Each run of a prompt starts fresh, though, nothing reviews the output before a rep sees it, and no prompt interviews a buyer. [ChatGPT or Claude for competitive intelligence](/resources/comparisons/chatgpt-claude-competitive-intelligence) covers the ceiling.

### KeepTabz, Competely and Visualping: the monitors

Each of these reports a change and leaves the rest. KeepTabz's entry plan sends a competitor digest for under $100 a month. Competely is candid that it "does not do win-loss programs, sales battlecards wired into Salesforce", and that "a competitor can be missed". Visualping is free or from $14 a month, but Slack and Teams alerts and a second user start on its Business plan, at $1,200 a year or more.

## What do monitors and budget tools leave you to do?

Most of them stop at the alert. Someone still has to turn each competitor change into a [battle card](/resources/competitive-intelligence/battle-cards-101) a rep trusts, so the money saved on the licence comes out of the PMM's week.

The first thing to go is judgment. A monitor can tell you a competitor rewrote its pricing page. It can't tell you what that means for the deal your rep is in on Thursday. In Wynter's survey, 23% of PMMs said CI tools fail on "No strategic insight" and 16% on "Missing context or narrative".

Next goes the writing. A monitor's entry plan costs under $1,200 a year, but every card it prompts is written by hand, so its real price includes that share of the PMM's year. The third is the tiers: Playwise adds version control and approval workflows at Pro, and Kompyte caps tracked companies below Unlimited.

None of this bites every team. A PMM working alone, with a handful of competitors and no sales team waiting on cards, can run on a free tier or a monitor plus a chatbot. The catch starts the day sales expects a current card in the deal.

## How do you switch off Klue?

Switching off Klue is mostly a calendar problem. The data comes out over Klue's Content API or MCP server in about a day, or in one command with Calven's open-source [Klue export tool](https://github.com/calven-ai/calven-migrate-from-klue), and the deadline that counts is the non-renewal notice date in your contract. Rebuild the battle cards in the new tool rather than porting the stale ones. [How to migrate off Klue or Crayon](/resources/competitive-intelligence/how-to-migrate-off-klue-or-crayon) has the steps, and the [migration checklist](/resources/templates/how-to-migrate-off-klue-or-crayon-template) turns them into a plan.

Whatever replaces Klue, its quote shows only the licence. Put the hours of whoever keeps the cards current next to it. A [Calven trial](/pricing) runs 14 days with no card, so the comparison can start well before the notice date.
